A Viking Encounter At Tatton Park.

Year 2 Visited Tatton park this week and got caught up in a squabble between two Vikings, Harold Blood-Axe and  Edgar  and Tata, a Saxon. Fortunately they put their arguments to one side so they could teach the children about everyday aspects of Saxon/Viking life.

Below are some photographs of the activities the children did with two captions. One caption is correct and one is not, but which one is which?

A

The cuts to Education spending were beginning to take effect as the children struggled to master the art of writing with a quill pen.

Or B

The children decorated their clay thumb pots and charms in a traditional manner.

A

Harold demonstrated how to use a scythe to cut the wheat.

Or B

Deer Poo! The latest fragrance from Calvin Klein.

A

Kai wondered if he should be worried about the horn growing out of his head.

The Death of Endurance

Endurance.

Endurance was Ernest Shackletons ship. She was trapped by ice in the Weddell Sea and the crew watched as she was slowly crushed. Year 2 tried to imagine what it would have been like to watch the ship slowly destroyed.

There was a ship named Endurance. Once she was a beautiful ship but now she’s desolate and ruined. She is crushed and trapped in ice. Sadly she is dying and as time goes on she begins to sink and sink more. Inside the boat are the things that we needed but the floor is covered in freezing water and flooded..

By Fatimah

The freezing cold ship was trapped in the ice and she was frozen. After a while the ship was tipping and exhausted. There was a flashing light- it was a sign she was saying she was still alive but I knew that she was going to sink. Inside Endurance it was flooding and frozen. Endurance was lonely and heartbroken.
By Lucy

The solid ice crushed against the beatifull ship. The hard rigid ice creeked slowly against poor Endurance. The light kept on flashing like a heartbeat. Mainly the ship was full of freezing cold water. The beatifull ship was sinking slowly into the cold ice.F rantically the light was shining bright but it was sinking .We could hear  her creeking. It was like Endurance jumped on the ice and made herself die beacause she was ready to die. The ice was slippy so she kept on moving. She kept on flooding. The sails were breaking slowly.

By Sabaa

Once, she was a beautiful ship, but now she’s a ruined ship. The ship was dying, the ice-berg was crushing her. She was frozen everywhere. The ship was creaking, she cried out for help. She started to rattle, she was tangled up. When she started to sink, the light came off. That meant that she was dying. It was as if  Endurance was crying. It was a sad ending.

Things to do if you don’t like football!

Not everybody is caught up by the excitement of the World Cup. Post a comment to tell us what you do when the footie matches are on television. I like to go out for a walk with my dog Harry. There is nobody else about! And if I can find a nice tea shop…….!

The Ocean’s Fury

The monstrous, horrifying waves crashed against the lighthouse. The frightened men were waiting for a helicopter to come and rescue them. One of the men opened the door because he thought he heard the sound of the helicopter. He noticed the waves towering above so he shoved the door shut and ran inside the ruined lighthouse. The wind was howling like a wild animal. A few minutes later, he heard a whizzing noise and he opened the door and looked up. ‘Finally’ he thought. the helicopter flew down to the lighthouse and they were rescued.

By Sabaa

The waves were crashing and smashing against the lighthouse. The windows had smashed with the most terrifying noise  I have ever seen and heard. I heard a deafening, ear splitting sound. I saw it was the helicopter, hovering above me. Suddenly I felt as if my life would be given to the ocean. As fast as I could, I slammed the door shut and … to my surprise I was alive. I heard the helicopter, so I was saved.

By Phoebe

In the lighthouse, I thought that the helicopter had come. But I looked out and saw a massive wave. It crashed against the lighthouse. I thought the lighthouse was sinking. I heard the  eerie noise of the howling waves. I closed the door as quickly as I could. Then I heard a thud, thud, thud on the roof and it was the helicopter.

A Viking Reunion

SDC10208.jpg

Sven, Erik and Sigurd were delighted to meet up with their best friends Stefan and Brian. Stefan and Brian had actually remembered to use a longboat!

Leo felt sorry for the three boatless Vikings, so he made a fantastic boat for them. Well done Leo
